Edmodo - Teaching in the era of social media

This brand new post is related to the previous one. This is another phase in the teaching practice I took in my FLE modules. As the previous post, this one is also related with online teaching... how to take our physical class to a better dimension. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of Edmodo!

Teachers these days are aware of the teens' fever of social media. They control beyond our own

control. Teens these days are entertained by the different features of social media (e.g. youtubers, trending topics, selfies, accounts...). As teachers, we are aware that social media is their priority and their main motivation. With this huge motivation, it's hard for us to make our courses more appealing. 

Everything is not bad news though. Edmodo brings us a spark of light under cover of darkness. How is it possible? Easy. If you can't beat your enemy, join them. In other words, transforming your teaching experience to a social media experience. Yes, teaching in the era of social media is possible thanks to Edmodo. Edmodo is a social media platform designed exclusively for education. It's addressed to parents, students and teachers. Edmodo makes an online version of your own class. By using the Internet and its different opportunities, students are more eager to take part in the language class.

As a teacher, Edmodo allows you to have different groups -

depending on the number of classes you teach. It's a great tool to send homework, revise and solve our students' most urgent doubts. Edmodo is a great tool to assess our students, making our job easier. It also allows you to run surveys to your students: this can help you see your students' satisfaction with the activities you do in class. To make a better experience, Edmodo works along with Microsoft Office Online and Google Drive. They know all teachers' needs. Edmodo is just about transferring your normal tuition to the online world.

As a student, Edmodo is a way of playing games while they learn, as everything is presented in an interactive way, following today's trends in technology. It's a great opportunity for them to show their language and technology skills - the more they do, the more they'll earn a badge. Edmodo offers us the chance to create works and quests and award our students for their job. This is not meant to be a competition, but a way for them to show their interest in the language. 

As any social media server, Edmodo is free to use by teachers, parents and students. It's true though that some areas are restricted for our students (just like a normal class) and their parents. Teachers are the ones who control everything on this site - they are the ones who make the magic happen with just a click. Edmodo is all about signing up and enjoying its advantages! Edmodo can be used by the whole school community or just by a single teacher. However, the more groups, the merrier! Edmodo is set for big student groups. Besides, Edmodo opens up your world, letting you get in touch with other teachers and other schools! Everybody has always something to share, just like what I do with

you guys!
